I have started advertising in newspapers in our local area and around the country. I am going to try USA Today.

I have received some replies, but I often question the quality of the call. I have not been ripped -off, but I am being very careful.

I am considering other metholds of attracting birthmothers.

It seems to me that there must be plenty of birthmothers willing to give up their baby if they could connect to people wanting to adopt.

Looking to adopt soon,

Arlene
(Thank you ABC for Letting me post this message)

What is your impression when you see a posting about a birthmother expecting twins? I wonder if there are any statistics on how many twins are adopted. I know that the idea of having two children at once is a great thought, but how much reality is there in the numbers.

Just thought I would throw that out. Any feedback?
Twigs,
Guest of ABC Adoptions

Too old to adopt?

I was just wondering what would be an age that would be too old to adopt? Would the child want old parents when the adopted child got older? Then I thought that maybe some children with special needs and/or in foster care would appreciate someone loving and caring for them.

After thinking about it for a while, I decide that there must be a situation for all ages. Maybe you agree, maybe you don't. I would love to hear what you think. Have a wonderful fall day.
Just thinking

Have you received a letter from an expectant mother from Cameroon or any other know country that puts out scam letters.

My advice is not to waste a moment on those letters, unless you want to play an adoption game.

Get real, it's not there.
Internet Adoption Scams - Can some of the blame go to adopting parents?

I continually hear about how adopting parents getting scammed, but I want to offer a different view point.

Adopting parents need to be vigilant in pursing birthmothers. It seems that they fall all over themselves when the phone rings.

How about verifying a little infomation. Who is she? Where does she live, what does she do? Come on! Compare it to anything else.

Do birthmothers get a free ticket? Adopting parents take the hook, line and sinker! Adopting parents need to get real and get past the heart strings.

It's business! Adopting parents do not want to admit, but it is true. How the trust is built over a phone call is beyond me. No attorney, no professional, just the ideal that you feel good about this person.

In closing, i would like to add a new phrase, 'We scammed ourselves".

Jennifer
Contributing writer for ABC Adoptions

"Wants to be a regular kid"

I had the opportunity to talk to a 19 year old adoptee. It was an interesting conversation. For the purpose of this story, we will use the name Reggie. Reggie told me that he was not interested in where his birthmother or birthfather are, but really just wanted to be a "regular kid" growing up.

Often through political correctness, we think that every adoptee has a hunger to know where his parents are and what the story was that lead up to has adoption. I am here to tell you that is not always the case.

Even to the dismay of the adoptive parents, sometimes the adoptee simply does not know or care about his history beyond the life as he has it.

It is like a bio-child not caring where he came from before birth. I have not given it much thought, but I really don't care beyond what I know now where I cam from

So you adoptive parents that want to build up the big open adoption story and what it took to adopt you child, take it easy a little and test the water to see if your adoptive child cares to hear the story or simply just wants a closed adoption and "wants to be a regular Kid". Maybe not popular in this correct world, but I can see Reggie's point.

Best wishes,
Dave
